Toshikazu Miyoshi received his B.S. degree in Polymer Science at Hokkaido University in 1992, M.S. degree in Polymer Science at Hokkaido University in 1994, and Ph.D. degree in Chemistry at Kyoto University in 1997. After postdoctoral work at Institute of Polymer Research Dresden, Germany, he joined National Institute of Advanced Technology and Industrial Science (AIST), Japan in 2000. He joined the department of polymer science at the University of Akron as an associate professor in 2010. Then he became a professor in Department of Polymer Science at the University of Akron in 2018. He has published more than 80 academic papers in  international journals as ACS Macro Lett., Macromolecules and other journals. Also, he has published 4 books and 1 patents. His research interests include development of solid-state NMR techniques and their application to semicrystalline and glassy polymers, self-assembly, and biomaterials.

报告摘要:

Solid-state NMR spectroscopy is one of powerful tools to study local structure and dynamics of organic molecules at the molecular scale. So far, ssNMR spectroscopy has contributed to understanding molecular dynamics related to glass transition temperature and crystalline relaxation, as well as local packing structure and conformation of solid polymers. We are further pursuing possibilities of applications of ssNMR techniques to deeply understand structure and molecular dynamics in polymer science. In this talk, three topics including chain-folding structure of long polymer chains in solution and melt-grown crystals chemical reactions of Poly(acrylonitrile), and molecular dynamics of semicrystalline polymers will be presented.
