Plasmonic metal nanocatalysts can be employedto efficiently boost the conventional catalytic reaction throughthe energy of photons. This work demonstrates a facileultrasonic-assisted galvanic replacement method to successfullyfabricate the highly open AuAg nanobowls with tunable atomicratio, which act as the catalytically active site and the lightabsorbers simultaneously. By virtue of the synergistic andelectronic effect between Au and Ag, as well as unique bowllike structure, the resulted AuAg nanobowls exhibit superiorelectrocatalytic performances toward ethylene glycol oxidationthan that of the bare Au. More interestingly, such AuAgnanobowls also show the surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-induced enhancement of electrocatalytic performances when themodified electrodes are upon the visible light irradiation, 2.3 times higher than that in the traditional ambient electrocatalyticoxidation. This finding opens a new way for designing a myriad of plasmonic metal nanocatalysts with desirable nanostructuresfor solar fuel cells and other devices.
