AbstractⅠ: An ammonium resin(PBnNH3Cl) was used as a sole catalyst for the glucose and polysaccharidesdehydration to 5-hydroxymethxylfurfural (HMF) in high selectivity (>80%) inDMSO or biphasic reaction system. The simple resin works as a dual functionalorganocatalyst to catalyze glucose isomerization and fructose dehydrationreactions. It represents the first sole catalyst and metal-free catalyticsystem for highly selective glucose dehydration to HMF in a mild condition.

AbstractⅡ:High step- and atomic-economy are the endlesspursuit in organic and pharmaceutical synthesis. Herein, a new method fordirectly coupling of benzyl/allyl alcohols with malonates via palladiumcatalyzed Tsuji-Trost type reaction was developed. The reaction was carriedinorganic carbonate solvent which would activate alcohols in situ, replacing the traditional pre-synthesized carbonates. Thenew process demonstrated high efficiency, high selectivity and high generality.A wide variety of mono-substituted and bis-substituted malonates wereselectively produced under different conditions, represents a more step- and atom-economicand environmentally benign synthetic protocol.
