报告摘要:
Implementation of controlled/living polymerization in heterogeneous media, especially in aqueous-based systems, holds the premise for green, efficient and low-cost production of polymers with the desired ability to control all the features that one may experience with polymerizations in organic solutions. We have been engaging in RAFT heterogeneous polymerizations and have reported some of the first examples of RAFT dispersion polymerizations in water. While a clear and accurate understanding of the complex processes and mechanisms underlying the seemingly simple heterogeneous polymerizations is still underway, such heterogeneous polymerizations have been exploited for the synthesis of nanogels and core crosslinked star (CCS) polymers. We have demonstrated the unique proposition of using CCS as efficient emulsifiers. In line with the recent concept of polymerization-induced self-assembly, which is actually based on RAFT heterogeneous polymerizations, examples of morphology control in RAFT dispersion polymerization will be discussed.
