报告摘要:Polyisobutylene (PIB) based polymer networkspotentially useful as smart coatings for photovoltaic devices have beendeveloped. Low molecular weight coumarin functional tri-arm star PIB wassynthesized via a single step SN2 reaction of bromoallyl functionaltri-arm star PIB with 4-methylumbelliferone or umbelliferone in the presence ofsodium hydride. Quantitative end functionality was confirmed by MALDI TOF MS.UV A/UV C light induced reversible photodimerization/ photocleavage of thecoumarin moieties resulted in cross-linked elastomeric films exhibitingself-healing behavior. The extent of photodimerization/ photoscission wasmonitored by UV-vis spectroscopy. The low oxygen (1.1 x 10-10 mol-mm-2 s-1 Pa-1) and moisture (8.3 x 10-11 mol-m m-2 s-1 Pa-1) permeability of thecross-linked polymer films suggest excellent barrier properties of thecross-linked polymer films. The self-healing process was studied by atomicforce microscopy (AFM). For this, mechanical cuts were introduced in thecross-linked PIB films through micromachining with an AFM tip and the UV and/orsunlight induced rate of healing was followed by taking AFM images of the filmat different time interval during the repair process. Encapsulated polymersolar cells exhibited excellent device stability.

报告人简介:Prof. Rudolf Faust received hisDiploma in Chemistry in 1975, and PhD in Colloid Chemistry in 1978 from EötvösLoránd University, Budapest, Hungary. He then joined the Institute of PolymerScience at the University of Akron as a visiting scientist. In 1988, he joinedthe university of Massachusetts Lowell, and became a full professor in 1994 inthe Department of Chemistry. Prof. Faust is an expert on living polymerization,polymerization mechanism, polymer structure and property and bio-relatedmaterials. He served as chairman and member of ACS. He is author of 260 papers,5 chapters and 23 patents. He was awarded "National Academy of InventorsFellow" in 2015.
