Electrospinning is an innovative processingtechnique that uses electrostatic forces to drive the spinning process and toproduce polymer, ceramic, and carbon/graphite fibers with diameters typicallyranging from tens to hundreds of nanometers (commonly known as “electrospunnanofibers”). This talk focuses on theelectrospun nanofibers of conjugated polymers and their photoluminescenceproperties. Conjugated polymers, poly[2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethyl-hexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) and poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT),in dilute solution, and in the composites of MEH-PPV/polyethylene oxide (PEO)and P3HT/PEO with thin film, random electrospun nanofiber, and aligned electrospun nanofiber morphologieswere investigated. For the dilutesolutions of conjugated polymers, mixture solvents of chloroform and methanolwere used to induce the aggregation of the macromolecular chains in theconjugated polymer, and the effects of aggregation were characterized by theluminescence spectroscopy. In the solidstates, polarized luminescence spectra of thin films prepared by spin-coating,random and aligned nanofibers prepared by electrospinning were measured; andthe data were analyzed using the luminescence anisotropy spectra. The resultswere discussed in terms of macromolecular chain alignment and luminescenceanisotropy.

朱正涛博士现任职于南达科他矿业理工学院(South Dakota School of Mines and Technology)。朱博士分别于1992年和1995年取得复旦大学高分子材料的学士和硕士学位,于2002年在美国纽约州立大学(the State University of New York at Binghamton)取得材料化学博士学位,之后在康奈尔大学(CornellUniversity, 2002-2004)和伊利诺伊大学厄巴纳-香槟分校(University ofIllinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2004-2006)从事博士后研究。朱博士于2006年开始在南达科他矿业理工学院任助理教授,并于2012年进升具有终身教职资质的副教授(Tenured Associate Professor). 主要的研究方向是纳米材料和器件在能源的转换和储存,柔性电子器件,化学传感器等方面的应用,共发表论文50余篇,相关研究获得美国自然科学基金,美国航天局,美国化学会等机构的资金支持。
