Abstract

  Inthis lecture we will describe the potential of Organocatalysis in polymersynthesis. Although organocatalysis was among the earliest methods ofcatalyzing the synthesis of polyesters, its use in polymer synthesis has beenonly developed in the last decade. I would like to highlight the opportunitiesand challenges in the use of organic molecules as catalysts. I will focusmainly in the synthesis of polyurethanes and polycarbonates one of the mostused polymer families.

  These catalysts opened new opportunities for theirutilization in biodemical applicationssuch as 1) the preparation of temperature responsive polyurethane particlesfor drug delivery applications; 2)the potential application of polyurethanes and polycarbonates as macromolecular antimicrobials. Also I would like to emphasize ourcurrent work about reliable water purificationmethods.
