摘要

Earlier work that resulted in reversibly porating gels derived from ionic liquid acrylate surfactants has been extended to condensation polymers that greatly expands the application window of such materials. We demonstrate this phenomenon with a new class of polyurethanes, and find that solvent responsiveness can be used to reversibly induce poration in a manner similar to that discovered using free radical chain polymerized gels. Thermal analysis of these new polyurethane gels reveals for both ionic liquid monomers and for controls without ionic liquids, materials that exhibit polymer crystallization and melting below corresponding glass transition temperatures. These are the first such materials to exhibit Tm < Tg. We also present a class of polyurethanes incorporating ionic liquid monomer that, when stripped of solvent by heating in vacuo, spontaneously disperse when immersed in water. These new materials represent a new class of polyurethane dispersions, and the first to be reported that can be synthesized in one step.
