      Introduction

      Dr. Xiao-Song Wang is a RCUK Academic Fellow at the University of Leeds. He has received the Roberts academic award (2006). His has published 40 papers with citation number of more than 1000. His research activities with major financial support from EPSRC lie in the following discrete but related areas: 1) Well-defined (organometallic) polymers; 2) Supramolecular chemistry, 3) Functional nanomaterials. His accomplishments in the area of organometallic supramolecular functional nanomaterials are especially international recognized:

      1) He has developed a number of new concepts for functional nanomaterial synthesis, including one-dimensional silver nanoparticles arrays, magnetic nanocylinders, redox-active colloids and organometallic nanoshells. The papers describing these works have been published in a number of leading journals including J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Adv. Mater. and highlighted by ACS C & E News. He has also been invited to present this work in the ACS Meeting (Boston 2007) and the coming ACS meeting (Washington 2009).

      2) He has made a groundbreaking discovery in the area of supramolecular chemistry. He discovered that the self-assembly of block copolymers, just like molecule synthesis, can be controlled precisely. This discovery is opening a new research area of living supramolecular chemistry for complicated nanomaterials design. This work has been published in Science and highlighted by ACS C & E News. The work has also been selected as teaching materials is a textbook of Nanochemistry: a chemical approach to nanomaterials.
